The new power-hitting coach of Punjab Kings Julian Wood has pointed out how everyone talks about the Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals when asked who will win IPL 2022. Wood reckoned that the Punjab Kings can win the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
The Kings have been a part of the IPL since its inaugural season. They qualified for the semifinals in 2008 and made it to the final in 2014 but fell short of the championship on both occasions. The Kings have not finished in the Top 4 of the playoffs after the 2014 season.
To ensure that the Mohali-based franchise achieves success in IPL 2022, the team owners have appointed a special power-hitting coach for this season. Former Hampshire player Julian Wood will play a unique role in the backroom staff of the Kings.
Commenting on his team’s chances of winning IPL 2022, Julian Wood told Sportskeeda:
“I think we are the dark horse, all the big guns the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals everybody talks about them. However, I haven’t heard much about our team being mentioned much in the TV which is good as we can stay under the radar.”
Punjab Kings will play under Mayank Agarwal’s captaincy in IPL 2022
The Mohali-based franchise have appointed Mayank Agarwal as their new skipper ahead of the IPL 2022 season. The Kings played one match under Agarwal last year, where they suffered a defeat against the Delhi Capitals.
Agarwal will make his debut as a full-time captain in the IPL this year. It will be interesting to see if he becomes the first player in IPL history to lead the Kings to the trophy. The Mohali-based franchise will start their IPL 2022 campaign against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in an evening match on March 27 in Mumbai.
