The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League got underway earlier tonight with a battle between the defending champions Chennai Super Kings and last year’s runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders. Two wicket-keeper batters stole the show on Saturday evening as both Sheldon Jackson and MS Dhoni impressed the fans with their performances.

While Dhoni returned to form with the bat and scored a fifty for the Chennai Super Kings, Jackson pulled off a smart stumping behind the stumps. His stumping that helped the Kolkata Knight Riders dismiss Robin Uthappa. It reminded former Mumbai Indians captain Sachin Tendulkar about MS Dhoni’s lightning quick stumpings.

Speaking to the host broadcaster after the match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders, Sheldon Jackson disclosed that he always tries to imitate MS Dhoni. Here’s what he was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz:

“He (MS Dhoni) always has been my inspiration. I always looked up to him and whatever he does I just try to imitate it and I have a lot to look and lot to learn from him. Learning a lot (On playing the helicopter shot) and picking up quite a lot from him (MSD) actually.”

Sheldon Jackson is likely to continue as the wicket-keeper of the Kolkata Knight Riders team in IPL 2022

In the first match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, Sheldon Jackson and Sam Billings both featured in the Kolkata Knight Riders. It was a little surprising to see two wicket-keepers in the Kolkata Knight Riders playing XI, but it seems KKR are giving an equal chance to both before all their players are available.

In case this combination works, then perhaps, the Kolkata Knight Riders will stick with it. Another interesting thing is that the Kolkata Knight Riders played with only three overseas players against the Chennai Super Kings. They had Sam Billings, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine in their playing XI.
