Australian cricket team’s off-spin bowler Nathan Lyon has opined that the Australian cricketers deserve the best results now because they have been grinding hard for quite some time. The Aussies are at the top of the ICC World Test Championship points table right now, having registered wins over England and Pakistan.
Their next challenge is the Sri Lankan cricket team. The islanders will be high on confidence, having defeated the Aussies in the five-match ODI series by 3-2. However, the challenge will be more intense in Test cricket because the Aussies are keen to qualify for the ICC World Test Championship Final after missing out narrowly the last time around.
Speaking about the team ahead of their ICC World Test Championship series against the Sri Lankan cricket team, Nathan Lyon was quoted as saying as follows by SMH:
“I think we deserve it [to be the best]. I know that sounds quite arrogant, but we’ve done a lot of hard work as a team and gone through some ups and downs, but I think we deserve some late reward in all our journeys. We’ve got the experience and skill to actually achieve this around the world.”

This series will also help Australia decide their squad for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship series against the Indian cricket team, which will happen in the ongoing WTC cycle. India will host the four-match series either in late 2022 or early 2023.
