N Jagadeesan was involved in a massive controversy during the first match of the 2022 edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League last night. The wicket-keeper batter opened the innings for his team Chepauk Super Gillies in the season opener against the Nellai Royal Kings. Jagadeesan looked in good touch as he scored 25 runs off 15 deliveries, smashing four fours.

However, his innings came to an abrupt end after Baba Aparajith ran him out at the non-striker’s end before bowling the delivery. N Jagadeesan lost his cool and showed the finger to the bowler while on his way back to the dressing room.

Jagadeesan later came out to bat in the Super Over of the match and smashed a six. Taking on Twitter after the match, the Chepauk Super Gillies opener wrote:

“My deepest apologies to all of you for my inexcusable behavior at yesterday’s match. Cricket has always been what I live for – and the sportsmanship that comes along with the sport is something I deeply respect. Which is why it is very hard for me to digest how I reacted.”

No excuses for what has been done: N Jagadeesan

Jagadeesan, who plays for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL, further added that passion is key but one should know how to control aggression also.

“Passion is always key in any sport – but controlling it and channelising it the right way is more important. And that is something I failed at doing when I let my temper get the better of me. No excuses for what has been done. I will do better and be better.”

Jagadeesan signed off by saying that he was full of regret after the incident. The Chepauk Super Gillies lost to the Nellai Royal Kings in the Super Over after the 20-over match ended in a tie. Kings are at the top of the TNPL Points table now.
