Rising star of Indian cricket Rahul Tripathi recalled the advice that former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni gave to him during the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League. Both Dhoni and Tripathi played for the Rising Pune Supergiant team in IPL 2017.
While Dhoni was not the captain of the team that season, he still guided Tripathi and fulfilled the responsibility of a senior player. IPL 2017 was the breakthrough year for Tripathi because after that he became a well-known player.
His consistent performances at the top of the order played an important role in the success of the Rising Pune Supergiant team. The Pune-based franchise finished runners-up in that IPL season.
In an interview with News18, Rahul Tripathi revealed the advice that Dhoni gave him and said:
“I still remember when I was on my IPL debut, he came and said, “jaise nets me khel rahe ho, bilkul waise hi khelo” (Play as you play in nets). He treats every player as his younger brother. He guided me throughout the tournament in 2017.”
Rahul Tripathi will play for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the IPL 2022 season
Rahul Tripathi played for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League. He reached the final of the competition with the team, where the Kolkata Knight Riders lost to the Chennai Super Kings.
Despite his good performances for the team, the rising star was not retained by the Knight Riders ahead of the mega auction. IPL 2016 winners Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him at the mega auction for a price of INR 8.5 crore. It will be interesting to see how he performs for his new franchise.
Tripathi has played for the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Rising Pune Supergiant and the Rajasthan Royals in his career. Sunrisers Hyderabad will be his fourth franchise.
