“I was also victim, they didn’t spare even Tendulkar”- 1983 World Cup winner Syed Kirmani talks about injustice with Wriddhiman Saha

1983 World Cup winning player Syed Kirmani recently lashed out at the administrative system in place for the selection of the Indian squad. Kirmani spoke majorly about current Indian cricket team wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha and how he was dropped from the team at the peak of his career just like him.

In an interview with Sportskeeda, Syed Kirmani compared the current situation surrounding Wriddhiman Saha with his own case. He also pointed out how the selectors did not spare even someone like Sachin Tendulkar because of the age factor. Here’s what Kirmani had to say about the injustice:

“We don’t know what the selection committee and the team management think about the player. I have also been a victim of injustice, but nobody talks about it.”

Syed Kirmani then spoke about how he was dropped from the Indian cricket team as well as his state team which compelled him to switch to the Railways domestic cricket team. He added that no other wicket-keeper batter in domestic cricket performed better than him at that time, but Kirmani never returned to the Indian squad due to one or the other reason.

Also, he expressed his unhappiness over the fact that how his former teammates received positions in the NCA, but he has never received the recognition even by his state. Kirmani said that he wanted to play the mentor’s role for Karnataka’s youngsters but he never got the opportunity.

Further, Kirmani discussed the age factor and how a player is dropped so that the younger players can take their places. He added:

“This age factor has been there for a long time now. I was also a victim of this. They didn’t spare even Sachin Tendulkar, right? Just like me, Saha has been dropped from the Indian team when he’s at the peak of his career.”
