The ECB announced their squad for the Test series yesterday, and shockingly, experienced fast bowlers Stuart Broad and James Anderson did not find a place in the team. They are two of the most successful pacers in Test cricket history. Also, they performed decently in the Ashes series, where England lost by 0-4. Still, the team management has decided against picking the legendary duo.

Writing in his column for the Telegraph, Michael Vaughan shared his opinion on the squad named by ECB for the series against West Indies. While most fans were disappointed with ECB’s decision, Vaughan saw it as a positive development. Here’s what he wrote:

“England want to build a new culture. That’s what has led them to the huge decision to drop Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad from the squad to the West Indies.”

They clearly feel that they need to move away from that pair: Michael Vaughan on Stuart Broad and James Anderson

Vaughan added that this move will send a strong message to other players. He also mentioned that by axing Broad and Anderson, the selectors have hinted that they want a new set of players to play under Joe Root.

“I’m quite happy with this selection. They clearly feel that they need to move away from that pair. That’s the message – Joe Root and his team want to build a new team without Broad and Anderson,” Vaughan added.

According to the Telegraph, the decision to axe Stuart and James was taken by Andrew Strauss. Interim coach Paul Collingwood also supported it, while the decision-makers consulted captain Root before making it official.
