Against all odds, Sri Lanka has been in good form in recent months. They won the Asia Cup last year and they now have a chance to repeat the feat in 2023, as well.

The reason why Maheesh Theekshana is not playing the Asia Cup final

Maheesh Theekshana suffered a hamstring injury and hence, he will not be available for the final game against India. It is a big blow to the team which was doing well so far in the tournament.

Sri Lanka need to be careful about injuries

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka needs to be careful about injuries in the upcoming weeks. The 2023 World Cup is set to start in a few weeks and Sri Lanka cannot afford to miss any of their premier cricketers for the tournament. Since the tournament is happening in India, Sri Lanka will have a favourable combination to succeed. For that, they would need all of their players in good fitness.

While Maheesh Theekshana has suffered an injury, Wanindu Hasaranga is also absent. Before the Asia Cup itself, Wanindu had an injury and missed the tournament. Both these players are key with the ball and Sri Lanka must ensure that they would be available for the World Cup.
