Kedar Jadhav announced his retirement from all formats of cricket earlier today. The all-rounder was known for his clutch knocks in the middle-order and also part-time spin, which helped India a lot especially in the years 2018 and 2019.
He represented India in Asia Cup 2018 as well as ODI World Cup 2019. While he continued to play in the IPL, Jadhav did not get opportunities to play for India after 2020. Now that he has retired, here’s a look at India’s playing XI from his ODI debut and where are they now.
Openers – Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma
The Mumbai-based duo of Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma opened the batting for in that game, which was the fifth ODI of a bilateral series against Sri Lanka in Ranchi in 2014. Both openers failed to touch digits. Both are still active in all formats, with Sharma being India’s captain.
Middle Order – Ambati Rayudu, Virat Kohli, Robin Uthappa, Kedar Jadhav and Stuart Binny
Ambati Rayudu scored a fine half-century in that game, while Virat Kohli smashed a match-winning hundred. Robin Uthappa managed only 19 runs, while Jadhav aggregated 20 runs off 24 balls on debut. Stuart Binny scored 12 runs and took a wicket.
Rayudu, Uthappa, Binny and Jadhav have now retired. Uthappa, Rayudu and Jadhav have even tried their luck in commentary. Meanwhile, Kohli is one of the world’s best batters.
Bowlers – Axar Patel, Karn Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin and Dhawal Kulkarni
India played with just one specialist fast bowler in that game. Dhawal Kulkarni opened the bowling for the home side and finished with figures of 3/57 in eight overs. Karn Sharma remained wicketless, while Ashwin and Axar Patel scalped two wickets each.
Axar will play in the upcoming T20 World Cup, while Ashwin is a first-choice player for India in Tests. Sharma is still active in domestic cricket and IPL, but Kulkarni has retired.
