The last time Pakistan played host to this mega event was back in 2008. The entire Asia Cup took place there in that year. Interestingly, despite having the home advantage, Pakistan could not qualify for the finals. India finished runners-up in that mega event, and in this article now, we will look at the Indian squad from that tournament and where those players are now.

Batters and wicket-keepers – MS Dhoni (c), Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma and Robin Uthappa

Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag opened the batting for India in that tournament, while the middle-order featured some top talents like MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and Robin Uthappa. Except Sharma, all batters have retired now.

India went to Asia Cup with a lot of bowling options. They had enough depth in fast-bowling and spin departments. Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan and Piyush Chawla were the main all-rounders. Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma and RP Singh led the pace attack, while Pragyan Ojha was the lead spinner.

Chawla and Sharma are the only active cricketers now. They play domestic cricket and IPL. Yuvraj, Pathan brothers, Gony, Kumar, Ojha and RP Singh have announced retirement. They have worked as commentators and also participated in other T20 leagues.
