Rahul Tewatia is one of the top uncapped cricketers in India right now. The all-rounder has been a top performer in the Indian Premier League over the last three seasons. However, he is yet to play an international match for the Indian cricket team. It is not that the selectors have totally ignored Rahul.

The selection committee named him in the Indian squad for the home series against the England cricket team last year. However, he was dropped from the team after warming the benches in the five-match T20I series. Tewatia is yet to be recalled to the Indian squad.

After helping the Gujarat Titans win their maiden IPL trophy in 2022, Tewatia expected the selectors to call him back to the national squad. However, the selectors did not name him in the Indian squad for the T20I series against the South African cricket team and the Ireland cricket team.

Tewatia posted the following tweet on Twitter after not seeing his name in the Indian squad.

Graeme Smith explains why India may not have picked Rahul Tewatia for the Ireland tour

During a discussion on Star Sports while covering the India vs South Africa series, former South African cricket team skipper Graeme Smith shared his views on Tewatia being left out for the Ireland tour. He felt that the players who can do well in Australia are only being considered. Here’s what he was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda:

“It’s very difficult in India as you guys have so much talent. And coach Rahul Dravid, and captain Rohit Sharma must have had picked their majority of guys anticipating the conditions in Australia. I would say instead of Twitter, focus, perform and next time your time comes make sure no one can leave you out.”
