It is a strange situation for the overseas component of IPL. West India is no longer offering the monsters in the T20 format that the country is known for. The talent in South Africa is dwindling while many English players have an indifferent attitude towards IPL. New Zealand is also not contributing many players to IPL. Hence, it has been the Aussies who have dominated the foreign category of each franchise.

Therefore, naturally, BBL has become a strong selection criterion for foreign picks. The recent BBL edition has also given a set of players who could make a mark at the upcoming IPL campaign. In this article, we discuss five performers from BBL who can earn big in IPL auctions.

1. Alex Hales

Alex Hales ran the show in the games that he played in BBL. Although he is an English player, we opine that IPL franchises will consider his form in BBL. Hales is an explosive opener who can take on the quicks at will. He relies on timing the ball, and that’s one of his major strengths. Many teams will need an overseas opener for the upcoming edition. RCB and CSK have to replace Finch and Watson respectively, and hence, these two squads can target Hales on February 18th.

2. Jhye Richardson

Matches: 17 || Wickets: 29 || Average: 16.31

Jhye Richardson has played for Australia before and going by the form he showed in BBL, he is here to stay. The 24-year-old right-arm pacer was amongst a load of wickets in the competition. He exhibited an array of tricks, all of which had an immense impact on the game. His T20 bowling could ensure that he might even earn more than the likes of Mitchell Starc at the auctions. Mumbai Indians released four overseas pacers to the auction, and they will surely look to target the man in form.

Delhi Capitals released Alex Carey before the auctions. Soon after he was released, Carey smashed a century in BBL. He has been in good form in the competition and was also recently awarded a place in the Test team. A wicket-keeper batsman, Carey can play at multiple batting positions. However, the best tactic would be to utilize him in the top order. Delhi Capitals could target to re-hire him and maybe, KKR might target the Aussie to replace the outgoing Tom Banton in the roster. Any which way, Carey is likely to earn a big amount at the auctions.

4. Tanveer Sangha

Matches: 14 || Wickets: 21 || Average: 18.29

Indian-origin cricketer Tanveer Sangha has been one of the finds of the tournament for Australia. A right-arm leggie, Tanveer was brilliant in BBL. Hence, he even earned himself a place in the country’s T20 squad. Although overseas spinners are not in much demand at IPL, considering his roots and the excitement he brings in, Tanveer could extract the limelight at the upcoming auctions. Mumbai Indians has four overseas spots to fill, and a player like Tanveer on the bench would be an option worth considering. For CSK, Imran Tahir may not be in good form, and signing Tanveer will be an intelligent move.

5. Wes Agar

Matches: 15 || Wickets: 22 || Average: 20.77

Ashton Agar’s younger brother, Wes Agar could be in line for an IPL contract this season. Now, who would not want to have an express pace bowler in your squad? Wes is exactly that kind of bowler, and he is in good touch too. He brings the element of being relatively unknown that can have an impact in crucial situations. SRH have released Billy Stanlake, and hence, they do not have a player with genuine pace in the squad. Wes Agar can fulfil the requirement. Wes can also be chased by Mumbai Indians at the auction.
