The 2008 season was magical as no one expected IPL to be the success it turned out to be. Each team was allowed to pick an icon player, and a majority of the teams selected their local stars. Also, there was an auction that happened later. Rajasthan Royals emerged victorious that season, with Chennai Super Kings being the runner-up.

Here’s a look at all the team captains from that year and where are they now?

VVS Laxman captained the Deccan Chargers in IPL 2008. The team finished at the last position on the points table. Although they won the tournament next year, Adam Gilchrist was leading the team then. Laxman could not perform up to the mark in the IPL. He later became a part of Kochi Tuskers Kerala before quitting the tournament.

Currently, Laxman serves as the mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Also, he works as a cricket commentator.

Shane Warne led the Rajasthan Royals to the championship in IPL 2008. The Jaipur-based franchise started as the underdog and still, won the title. Yusuf Pathan and Shane Watson were the biggest stars for the team. Even local players Neeraj Patel and Swapnil Asnodkar shone for the franchise.

Like VVS Laxman, Warne has retired from all forms of cricket. He is the coach-cum-mentor of Rajasthan Royals and holds a small stake in the franchise.
