Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has confirmed that he will not retire from the Indian Premier League after the 2022 edition of the mega event. Dhoni said that it will be unfair for the fans living in Chennai because he has not played a single match in Chennai since the 2019 IPL season.

The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League happened in the United Arab Emirates behind closed doors, while the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League happened in India and UAE. 50% fans were allowed for the phase in the UAE and the league stage of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League which happened in Maharashtra.

Now, if the IPL switches back to the home-away format in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League, Dhoni will get a chance to play in Chennai again. Here’s what he was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda at the toss of the match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals earlier tonight:

“We want to end the season on a good note. Definitely. It will be unfair to not play in Chennai to not to say thank you to the fans. Won’t be nice to do that to CSK fans. Hopefully, next year we’ll get the opportunity to travel so it will be like a thank you to different venues.”

MS Dhoni will work harder on his game ahead of IPL 2023

Since Dhoni does not play international cricket, he will have to work harder before he returns to the Chennai Super Kings in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. He has been performing well in IPL 2022, and he will aim to continue in the same vein.

IPL 2023 is still approximately one year away, so it will be interesting to see how Dhoni performs in the next season of the league.
