CSK XI IPL 2023

It is the second time in three seasons that CSK will not play in the playoffs. Now that the mega-auction has just happened, the management will have to make a few intelligent moves to get a good team for the next season. On that note, in this article, we take a look at the strong CSK XI that the franchise should target for IPL 2023 by making just two changes to the current squad.

CSK had its share of problems in this campaign. Deepak Chahar was not available while there were captaincy issues, as well. Yet, the core of the squad is still solid and the management can prepare another title-winning team.

Openers: Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway will be the openers in the strong CSK XI that the franchise should target for IPL 2023 by making just two changes to the current squad. The duo did not find their way in the first few games. However, at the latter end of the campaign, the Indian-Kiwi duo did well for CSK. Hence, it is unlikely that CSK will make a change to this department. However, they could retain Robin Uthappa as the backup for this role.

Middle-Order: Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Shahrukh Khan and MS Dhoni (C&WK)

Moeen Ali was inconsistent in IPL 2022 but he will be backed to come good. Shivam Dube had a good campaign and might become an important member of the team. Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa have been consistent and considering their age, it would be best if CSK moves on.

Shahrukh Khan has been underwhelming this season and he could be released by Punjab Kings. CSK should target the local cricketer. He is a power-hitter and in Chennai where the tracks assist spin, Shahrukh’s raw power can be useful. He has anyways played cricket all his life in that stadium. MS Dhoni is likely to continue and hence, he is part of this XI.

All-Rounders: Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo

Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo will be the all-rounders in this strong CSK XI that the franchise should target for IPL 2023 by making just two changes to the current squad. Jadeja might just need a role clarity and then, he shall return back to form. CSK could consider using him higher up the batting order. Bravo still looks to have the gas to continue. If not, the likes of Adam Milne and Pathirana can come into the XI.

Bowlers: Deepak Chahar, M Theekshana and Kartik Tyagi

Deepak Chahar missed IPL 2022 and that was a massive blow. He will lead the attack in IPL 2023. Theekshana has looked good so far and in Chepauk, he will be even more dangerous. Although Mukesh Choudhary has bowled well, he is majorly a powerplay bowler. Deepak Chahar also falls in a similar category and CSK may not be able to afford two such players in the XI. Hence, they could target someone like Kartik Tyagi, who is being underused at SRH. Tyagi might not be released but CSK could target a trade move for him. If this plan does not come off, Mukesh and Simrajeet Singh are anyways available.
