IPL 2025 Auction is officially done and dusted. It was a mega auction this time in the IPL, with all 10 teams being able to change a majority of the players in their squads. The teams generally invest in young talents at the auction because they can sign them for three years now.
The fact that the average age of the squads for IPL 2025 is less than 30 years shows that the teams have invested more in youth as compared to experience. This year, 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history by becoming the youngest cricketer to earn an IPL contract. Suryavanshi received a bid worth 1.1 crore INR from inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals.
Popular cricket site CricTracker recently shared a graphic of the average age of all 10 squads participating in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League. The team having the most senior squad is Kolkata Knight Riders, whose average age of players is 29 years and 191 days as of now. KKR will enter the tournament as defending champions, but their title winning captain Shreyas Iyer has moved to Punjab Kings.
The franchise having the youngest squad for the tournament is the Lucknow Super Giants. LSG spent 27 crore to sign Rishabh Pant at the mega auction, and they have many talented youngsters in the squad. Their average age of the squad is 25 years and 256 days.
Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are in the middle. They both average around 28 years for their squads. Here is the full list:
