Shreyas Iyer has been a dominant force for the Kolkata Knight Riders during his stint as the captain. Despite missing out the second season due to his injury, he came back strongly and propelled the team to a stunning crowning moment in 2024. However, given his recently dwindling numbers and his frequent tryst with injuries, KKR decided to let him go.

With no RTM’s left, if KKR wants Iyer back, they will have to fight tooth and nail against others in the auction to bring the big man back to their echelons. However, other teams will also be trying to bolster their midfield with a strong contender like Iyer. Here are four IPL franchises who can try and get hold of Shreyas Iyer in the mega-auctions.

    1. RCB

Mo Bobat, the director of cricket at RCB clarified the need to make a strong Indian core. As a result, they decided to retain three key Indian players namely Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal. With rumours of KL Rahul being on their radar where the competition is going to be a lot tougher. As a result of which, they might just decide to roll with Shreyas Iyer before Rahul. The presence of Iyer in the center provides them a very strong middle- order option.

    2. Rajasthan Royals

RR has a pretty solid top-order but it has been their middle order where the game has changed for them. Apart from Sanju Samson, their efforts in producing a quality Indian in the center has failed. This is where Iyer comes into the mix. Iyer’s onboarding can be the key to several of their conundrums and can also provide them a reliable option in going hard at the bowlers.

    3. PBKS

PBKS has decided to undergo a complete overhaul with just two names being retained. Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh were the uncapped names whom the Kings pinned

their hopes on. Given Iyer’s sense of leadership and his flair of going big in the center, the Kings might just find a strong captaincy contender while also managing to plug a solid middle-order gap through Shreyas.

    4. LSG

With KL Rahul gone, LSG will need a big name in their middle order and Iyer fits the bill perfectly. Even though Iyer isn’t an opener, yet he can be the one to bring about the storm in the middle-order. He has the shots and the range to uplift what was a fractious season for the Super Giants in 2024. More importantly, Iyer is an IPL winning skipper and hence the warrior mentality that you would expect, comes from the big man.
