"Seriously good player" - Jason Gillespie reacts to Babar Azam's top 3 rankings in all 3 formats

Babar Azam has been phenomenal with the bat in his hand in the last two years or so. He is certainly the best batsman in the world right now across all formats. That is why he is the only player currently who is in the top three rankings in all three formats. Babar is the No. 1 ranked batsman in the white-ball format, both in ODIs and T20Is.

On the other hand, after his excellent performance in the first Test match against Sri Lanka, he moved to No. 3 in the latest Test match rankings with 874 rating points. He is just behind Joe Root, who is at No. 1 with 923 points, and Marnus Labuschagne (885), who is at No. 2.

As per the current form, it will not be a surprise if he climbs to the top position in the Test rankings as well. However, many former and current cricketers have praised the Pakistan skipper and have termed him as the next big thing in cricket. Former Australian pacer, Jason Gillespie, has also reacted to Babar Azam’s climbing up the Test batsman ranking. Gillespie took to Twitter and shared a tweet, mentioning, “Seriously good player.”

Babar was good in the second innings of the second Test as well. He made 81 runs but couldn’t save his team from facing a big defeat. Apart from him, none of the other batters made a significant contribution. As a result, Pakistan were all out for 261 chasing the big target of 507 runs. They lost the match by 246 runs.

With the win, Sri Lanka also leveled the series at 1-1 and the trophy was shared between both nations. It didn’t go well for the Men in Green, as they slipped to No. 5 in the World Test Championship 2023 table with a 51.85 win percentage. On the other hand, Sri Lanka moved up to third place with a win percentage of 53.33.

The chances of Pakistan making it to the WTC final have been dented after that loss. Now they will have to win five out of their remaining five matches in this WTC cycle. However, if they win four and one match ends in a draw, they will have to depend on the results of other teams. But one loss will end their chances to great effect.
