Jaydev Unadkat misses playing Test cricket for India

Indian left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat has been waiting for a long time to return to Team India, but the opportunity has been hard to come by for the pacer.

At the age of 30-years, Jaydev Unadkat is India’s one of the most premium left-arm pacer, in a country which struggles to produce many left-arm pacer and a certain type that Team India is in the need for a long time.

The Saurashtra left-arm pacer made his Test debut at the age of 19 against South Africa at Centurion’s SuperSport Park in 2010 and that is the as of January 2022, the only Test match that he has played, and was not given a second opportunity.

Unadkat is haunted by the memory of Test cricket and that is why, he took to his official Twitter and made a special request to the red ball. The Saurashtra lad shared the picture of the red ball which is used for Test cricket and wrote, “Dear red ball, please give me one more chance.. I’ll make you proud, promise!”

Below this tweet, a user asked him at what pace he would bowl, then Unadkat replied to him saying that he would bowl at a pace which could bring him which at a flat pitch like in Rajkot.

He said “At a pace which gets me wickets, even on the flat tracks at my home ground. If you want to see the numbers, keep a wider perspective and check all columns.”

Jaydev Unadkat is neither able to make a place in Team India nor will he be able to play first class cricket this season, as it seems like. The first-class cricket tournament, the Ranji Trophy has been postponed after increasing cases of COVID-19 in the country.

Many a fans even recommend the left-arm pacer to try himself out in the English County Championship, but that’s unlikely without the permission of the BCCI.

Jaydev Unadkat’s Saurashtra is the defending champions of the Ranji Trophy after they won the competition back in 2019-20 season by beating Bengal. Even before this, in the 2018-19 season, Saurashtra had made it to the Ranji Trophy final. The 2020-2021 edition of the Ranji Trophy was not held due to COVID-19.
