Tokyo Olympics 2020 turned out to be a very successful event, even during the circumstances we live in. Team India also did well, securing India’s highest medal tally in Olympic history with seven medals. From the past couple of months, or I say years, there are talks about including cricket in Olympics. However, due to the format of the game, with one match taking over 3 hours times, it never materialized.

However, after Tokyo Olympics’ success, the governing body of cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC), has expressed intention to involve cricket in the Olympics from 2028 Olympics. And with the introduction of new formats like T10 cricket and ‘The Hundred,’ the time issue might not be a problem anymore.

Speaking about the news of cricket likely to be involved in the Olympics, England Cricket Team’s Test captain Joe Root expressed that cricket’s involvement in the Olympics will help the sport grow.

Root’s statement reads, “I think it’s great. We constantly talk about how we can grow the game. It will be great to see cricket as an Olympic sport.” The England batsman and skipper also believes that if ever, rather when cricket is introduced in the Olympics, ‘The Hundred’ format should be followed, “The Hundred seems to fit the bill, doesn’t it? It will be great to get cricket on that stage and get a reach out to other countries and what an opportunity it would be.”

The Hundred as format for cricket in Olympics?

The Hundred has caught the attention of the cricket world with its exciting new format and fast-paced cricket it has brought in, and thus it might be a perfect fit for the Olympics. Also, the cricketing world has praised the T10 format, and it might turn out an option for the Olympics.

Speaking Joe Root and Cricket, the England cricket team must be very thankful for the rain God as the fifth day’s play of the 1st Test match between India and England ended in a draw, which India should have won given the fifth day’s play would have happened.

England and India will take on the field again from 12th September for the 2nd Test match to be played at the historic Lord’s cricket ground in London.
