Rahul has not played any matches since the culmination of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. He was named the captain for the T20I series against the South African cricket team but missed out due to a last-minute injury. He was ruled out of the England tour and tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the West Indies tour. BCCI rested him for the Zimbabwe tour.
Taking to Twitter, Rahul wrote a note to his fans and said:
“Unfortunately, as I was nearing a return to full fitness, I tested positive for COVID-19. This naturally pushed things back by a couple of weeks, but I aim to recover as quickly as possible and be available for selection as soon as I can.“
