IPL is the grandest T20 competition on earth, with teams competing against each other to win the coveted trophy. 10 franchises based out of different cities of India are competing in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League right now. This tournament started in 2008, with a game between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Looking at the first-ever match of the league, many fans assumed that the bowlers would not have much dominance in this format of the game. However, the bowlers have proven them wrong by managing to take five wickets in just four-over spells. Here’s a list of the first bowler to take a five-wicket haul for each team in the IPL.
1. 1st 5-wicket haul for Rajasthan Royals in IPL – Sohail Tanvir
Sohail Tanvir played in the inaugural season of the league. The left-arm pacer bagged a six-wicket haul while playing for RR against CSK in 2008.
2. 1st 5-wicket haul for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL – Mark Wood
Last night, Lucknow Super Giants bowler Mark Wood became the first to take a five-wicket haul for LSG. Wood bowled a spell of 5/14 against Delhi Capitals.
3. 1st 5-wicket haul for CSK in IPL – L Balaji
Former Indian pacer L Balaji was the first to take a five-wicket haul for CSK. He achieved the feat against the Punjab Kings in 2008.
4. 1st 5-wicket haul for DC in IPL – Amit Mishra
Veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra took the first five-wicket haul for Delhi Capitals. He bowled a spell of 5/17 against Deccan Chargers in 2008.
5. RCB – Anil Kumble
Former RCB skipper Anil Kumble was the first to take a five-wicket haul for the Bangalore-based franchise. He returned with figures of 5/5 against RR in 2009.
6. MI – Lasith Malinga
Former MI pacer Lasith Malinga bowled some great spells in the league. He returned with figures of 5/13 against Delhi Daredevils in 2011.
7. Punjab Kings – Dimitri Mascarenhas
It may surprise a few fans but Dimitri Mascarenhas took the first five-wicket haul for PBKS. Playing against Pune Warriors in 2012, the former England all-rounder bowled a spell of 5/25.
8. KKR – Sunil Narine
Mystery spinner Sunil Narine recorded the maiden five-wicket haul for KKR. It came against the Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens in 2012.
9. SRH – Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged the maiden five-wicket haul for the Orange Army. Kumar returned with figures of 5/19 against PBKS in 2017.
