BCCI President Sourav Ganguly recently gave his opinion on whether the Indian cricket team players would think of better earning opportunities in the Indian Premier League and think about playing more in the league than for the nation. Ganguly feels that money has never been related to the performances of the players.

According to the BCCI President, the former cricketers never had such high salaries as the current generation, but they had the hunger which helped them achieve success in international cricket. Similarly, the current players also have the hunger to do well for the country at the international level, which is why the money factor should not affect their mindset.

Speaking with Times of India earlier today, Ganguly said:

“First thing first, money can’t be related to performances. From the times of Sunil Gavaskar to Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid, the money was nowhere close to what the players get now. But all of them had the hunger to perform. I don’t think players will only play for the money.”

Sourav Ganguly thinks every player dreams of winning a big international tournament for the Indian cricket team

During the same interview, Sourav Ganguly affirmed that the players have pride in playing for the Indian cricket team. All players dream to win a big international competition while wearing the Indian colors, which is why the IPL money should not impact them to think about prioritizing league cricket over international competitions.

The BCCI earned a staggering contract worth 48,390 crore for the IPL media rights from 2023 to 2027. Disney+ Star retained the rights for the telecast in India, while Viacom18 won the digital rights. Times Internet won the rights in the overseas category. The per match valuation of the Indian Premier League is only behind USA’s NFL in terms of money.
