Chennai Super Kings wicket-keeper batter MS Dhoni has broken his former teammate Suresh Raina’s all-time record for the most sixes by any player for the CSK franchise across all T20 matches. Fans should note that prior to IPL 2022, Raina held the record for the most sixes for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL and Champions League T20 matches.

Nicknamed ‘Chinna Thala’, Raina smashed 219 sixes while donning the yellow jersey in his career. Yesterday evening, MS Dhoni overtook Raina on the list by hitting his 220th six for the Chennai-based franchise. That six came off Rishi Dhawan’s bowling in the final over of the match against the Punjab Kings.

CSK needed 27 runs off the last over to win the match against PBKS. Dhoni started the 20th over with a six and then Dhawan bowled a wide. It seemed like CSK would pull off an improbable win, but Dhawan kept his nerve and defended 20 runs off the last five balls. He conceded only eight runs as PBKS won the game by 11 runs.

Still a bit nerve wracking when you are bowling at MS Dhoni: Kagiso Rabada

Speaking with the host broadcasters after his team’s win against the Chennai Super Kings, Kagiso Rabada admitted that Rishi Dhawan would have been under pressure in the 20th over because it is still nerve wracking to bowl against Dhoni. Just a few days ago, Dhoni scored 16 runs off four balls and helped CSK win the El Clasico match against MI.

Here’s what Rabada said after PBKS won the match:

“Rishi put his hand up in the final over. I think we bowled really well. Still a bit nerve wracking when you are bowling at MS Dhoni and there is not one red shirt in the crowd, only yellow shirts chanting his name. He held his nerve, credit to him.”
