The 38th match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is in the history books. The Punjab Kings defeated the Chennai Super Kings by 11 runs to hand CSK their sixth loss of the tournament. CSK won the toss and opted to field first at the Wankhede Stadium. It looked like Chennai would pull off their second consecutive win, but Arshdeep Singh’s magnificent death bowling denied them a victory.
Speaking of the match between the Punjab Kings and the Chennai Super Kings, PBKS got off to a cautious start with Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan ensuring that the Kings do not lose early wickets like previous matches. Agarwal departed to the dressing room after scoring 18 runs.
Dhawan held one end and remained in the middle till the end. He received great support from Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who made his comeback to the playing XI. Rajapaksa and Dhawan stitched up the first 100-run partnership for PBKS this season. Dhawan’s 59-ball 88 guided PBKS to a score of 187 runs in their 20 overs. In reply, CSK finished with 176/6 in 20 overs.
CSK needed 47 runs off the last four overs. Arshdeep Singh bowled two out of the four overs and conceded only 13 runs. His two overs changed the game as PBKS went on to win the match. Speaking after the game, Man of the Match Shikhar Dhawan said:
“Play with presence of mind and smartness as well. I have become senior and I don’t feel like it (laughs). I give a lot of inputs to the players and my captain as well. The youngsters overthink and are harsh on themselves so I was trying to communicate that, how to use the Law of Attraction to achieve big in life.”
