Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians have signed uncapped all-rounder Kumar Kartikeya Singh as a replacement for Mohammad Arshad Khan who has been ruled out of IPL 2022 because of an injury. MI confirmed this development with a press release on their official website.

The Mumbai-based franchise stated that Kumar Kartikeya Singh has been with the squad for quite some time. He was a net bowler for the team and helped the batters with their practice. In case you didn’t know, Singh is a left-arm pace-bowling all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh.

Talking about his numbers in T20 cricket, Kumar Kartikeya Singh has played eight matches, scalping nine wickets. His best figures in T20 cricket are 3/10, suggesting that once he gets going, he can destroy any opposition batting lineup.

Informing the fans about their new signing, Mumbai Indians wrote:

“Kumar Kartikeya is a slow left-arm bowler and has represented Madhya Pradesh across all three formats of the game since making his debut in 2018. Kumar Kartikeya has been impressive in the nets and his learning trajectory on improving and fine tuning his bowling skills have earned him the call up to the main squad.”

Kumar Kartikeya Singh may make his debut for Mumbai Indians against Rajasthan Royals

Mumbai Indians will play their next game against the high-flying Rajasthan Royals. The Royals seem unstoppable in this year’s IPL with a stellar squad. On the other side, MI are still looking for their first victory in the tournament.

Since MI do not have much depth in their spin attack, the team management may consider giving Kumar Kartikeya Singh an opportunity to showcase his talent. Not many batters would have faced him before so that surprise element could give the Mumbai-based franchise an upper hand. It will be interesting to see if MI back him and give him a chance.
