Royal Challengers Bangalore broke the bank to re-sign their star all-rounder Harshal Patel at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Patel, who won the Purple Cap and Most Valuable Player Award in IPL 2021, was surprisingly released by RCB ahead of the mega auction.
The Bangalore-based franchise would have thought of signing him at the mega auction, and that was exactly what they did during the two-day event. The Royal Challengers Bangalore went all out for Harshal when his name came up at the mega auction. Eventually, they signed him for a massive price of 10.75 crore.
In a chat with Gaurav Kapoor on Breakfast With Champions, Harshal Patel said that he was watching the mega auction, and his wife had told him that the amount would be in double figures this year. Patel told her that if the amount goes above 7 crore, the extra amount will be hers. That means 3.75 crore he would have given to his wife. Here’s what the Royal Challengers Bangalore star had to say:
“Things began happening at lightning speed, and then it went beyond 6-7 Crores, my wife had told me it’ll become double figures. I said Whatever is above 7 cr is yours.”
Harshal Patel remembers what Virat Kohli told him after the IPL 2022 Mega Auction
Virat Kohli was one of the three players the Royal Challengers Bangalore retained ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. He sent a text message to Patel immediately after he earned a contract worth 10.75 crore from the RCB franchise. Speaking about the message that Kohli sent to him, Patel added:
“I was in the room (2022 Auction time) and I got a message from Virat Kohli, ‘Congrats on winning the lottery’. I said ‘yeah bro, won the lottery. Way beyond my expectations.”
Kohli replied to him that he deserved the money he got. Patel signed off by saying that he was delighted to see his hard work pay off.
