Former Australian cricket team player Ian Chappell has given his honest opinion on the captaincy skills of Virat Kohli and Joe Root. Kohli is a former captain of the Indian cricket team. He played his last series as captain against the South African cricket team earlier this year. Meanwhile, Root is the captain of the England Test cricket team. Under his leadership, England have lost some big matches over the last few months.
In Ian Chappell’s opinion Virat Kohli is the successful captain, whereas Joe Root is a poor captain. The former Australian cricket team player wrote a column for ESPNCricinfo recently, where he gave his views on the captaincy of the two captains. He felt that Virat lifted the Indian cricket team to such a level in overseas Test matches which no other captain had done before.
“This is a tale of two cricket captains; one very good at his job and the other a failure,” Chappell wrote in his column for ESPNCricinfo.
Fans should note that the teams of Virat Kohli and Joe Root went face-to-face twice during the year 2021, where the Indian cricket team won five Test matches, while the England cricket team won two Test matches. The home series of the Indian cricket team ended 3-1 in the home team’s favor, whereas the Indian cricket team took a 2-1 lead after four matches of the away series against the England cricket team.
Ian Chappell names Virat Kohli’s biggest disappointment as Indian captain
In his analysis, Ian Chappell also named the biggest disappointment of Virat Kohli during his time as the Indian cricket team captain and said:
“His biggest disappointment as captain was the recent series loss to South Africa after India led the away series 1-0, though he didn’t captain in the middle Test of that series, in Cape Town.”
