Former New Zealand cricket team skipper Daniel Vettori gave his views on touring Pakistan. Vettori was a member of the Australian cricket team’s coaching staff during their recently-concluded tour of Pakistan. According to him, Pakistan is a safe place. He said that he will have a chat with his country’s players and share his experience of how he felt during the tour of the Asian nation.

International cricket teams refrained from touring Pakistan after the attacks on the Sri Lankan cricket team. However, with improved security measures, the trend has changed gradually. Teams like Zimbabwe, West Indies, Bangladesh, South Africa and Sri Lanka have played international matches on Pakistani soil. Even an ICC World XI visited the country for cricket matches.

Earlier this year, Australia traveled to Pakistan for the first time since 1998 to compete with the home team in an international series. Australia battled the Men in Green in all three formats of cricket. They won the historic ICC World Test Championship series by 1-0. Daniel Vettori was a spin consultant for Australia during that tour.

“I’ll definitely talk to players of New Zealand and let them know how successful Australia had a tour to Pakistan. Australian cricketers enjoyed the tour and Pakistan is a safe place. This was a stepping stone and more teams will tour Pakistan.”

Fans should note that New Zealand’s players reached Pakistan last year for an international series, but just before the first match of the series, the Kiwis pulled out owing to security reasons.
