Lucknow Super Giants have assembled a stellar team for IPL 2025. The Lucknow-based franchise made their IPL debut in 2022, and they qualified for the playoffs in their first two seasons. However, in 2024, the Super Giants could not make it to the Top 4.
Hence, the team management got rid of their regular captain KL Rahul. This time, the Super Giants went all out for Rishabh Pant at the mega auction and signed him for a whopping sum of INR 27 crore. Here’s a look at LSG’s probable XI for the IPL 2025 tournament.
Openers of Lucknow Super Giants – Rishabh Pant (c and wk) and Mitchell Marsh
Since the Lucknow-based franchise could not sign a specialist Indian opener at the mega auction, they will have to rely on Rishabh Pant for that role. Or else, LSG will have to use two overseas openers, with Matthew Bretzkee opening the batting with Australia’s T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh, who will make his LSG debut in IPL 2025.
Middle Order – Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad and Shahbaz Ahmed
The middle-order of LSG will be stacked with foreign players only. South Africa’s T20I superstar Aiden Markram should play at number three, followed by hard-hitting left-handers Nicholas Pooran and David Miller at the new two positions.
Ayush Badoni, who was retained by LSG, can bat at number six. LSG also invested in two Indian all-rounders, namely Abdul Samad and Shahbaz Ahmed. Both should get a place in the playing XI.
Bowlers – Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan and Avesh Khan (Impact Player)
The pace attack of the Super Giants team will majorly consist of Indian players only. Retained players Mohsin Khan and Mayank Yadav should share the new ball for the team. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi will be the lead spinner, with Markram, Samad and Ahmed being other spin options.
For the Impact Player, LSG can use either Avesh Khan or Akash Deep. Since Mohsin is a left-arm option and Mayank is an express pacer, only one out of Avesh and Akash can play.
