In a disappointing development for all the Mumbai Indians fans, the team’s new England fast bowler Jofra Archer has confirmed that he will not play for the franchise in IPL 2022. Archer has been ruled out of the tournament because of an injury that has troubled him for the last few months.
Archer has not played any international matches in the recent past. He did make a comeback to county cricket after missing IPL 2021’s first phase, but he had to take another break for proper recovery soon. Although Archer was not fit, he registered himself for the IPL 2022 Mega Auction and earned a contract from five-time champions Mumbai Indians.
MI fought an intense bidding war to sign the England fast bowler. Archer will make his Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. Confirming the development, Archer said in a YouTube video released by MI:
“Although I am progressing a bit faster than expected, which is a good thing, but it is still going to be next year. I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes high, I don’t want to disappoint anyone.”

In the same video, Jofra Archer talked about the massive success that the Mumbai Indians have achieved in the Indian Premier League. He was not surprised to see MI at the top of the most championship wins list because there is a family atmosphere in the team.
“It looks like a really close-knit group in MI. Any family-oriented franchise will definitely do well and there is no surprise that we have won five titles,” added Archer.
It will be interesting to see how Archer performs for the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming seasons. Fans are eagerly waiting to see the partnership of Archer and Jasprit Bumrah in the pace attack of the Mumbai Indians team. MI will open their IPL 2022 campaign against the Delhi Capitals on Sunday afternoon.
