The new head coach of the Indian cricket team Rahul Dravid won everyone’s hearts during his time as a cricketer, as a captain and now as a coach. The former Indian cricketer has reportedly donated a sum of INR 35,000 to the groundsmen at Kanpur’s Green Park for the hard work and efforts that they put in for the recently concluded ICC World Test Championship match between the Indian cricket team and the New Zealand cricket team.

The Indian cricket team is currently hosting the New Zealand cricket team for a brief tour. Playing under the captaincy of new T20I skipper Rohit Sharma, the home side defeated the Blackcaps 3-0 in the T20I series. Now, in the ongoing Test series between the Indian cricket team and the New Zealand cricket team, Kanpur hosted the first Test, which kept everyone at the edge of their seats.

Unlike the last few Tests in India, the pitch at Green Park was not so much supportive to the spinners from Day 1 onwards. Pacers, spinners and batters equally enjoyed themselves at Green Park during the first Test match. The match went down to the wire, where some solid defensive batting from the duo of Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel denied the Indian cricket team a win.

Possible reason why Rahul Dravid donated INR 35,000 to the Kanpur groundsmen

According to PTI, Rahul Dravid might have donated INR 35,000 to the Kanpur groundsmen because of the quality of the match that happened on the track.

“Rahul Dravid is bit different from the pack. He has donated Rs 35,000 from his own pocket for Green Park groundsmen. Perhaps an appreciation for producing a track that lasted 5 days,” a tweet by PTI’s Kushan Sarkar read.
