CVC Capitals to rope in Ravi Shastri as IPL’s new franchise Ahmedabad’s Head Coach

According to a latest report on Cricbuzz, one of the two new Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Ahmedabad, owned by CVC Capitals, have approached current Indian cricket team coach Ravi Shastri to become the team’s first ever head coach.

Ravi Shastri, who is currently serving as the Indian cricket team’s head coach, will be relieved off his duty after the T20 World Cup 2021 and former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid will takeover from him.

Now, after that, Ravi Shastri has two options to choose from, either return back to commentary box, and I am sure the fans have missed his voice, or continue as a coach.

Ravi Shastri to join Ahmedabad IPL franchise as Head Coach

According to a report on Cricbuzz, CVC Capitals, an equity firm who owns IPL’s one of the two new franchise, have approached Ravi Shastri and his coaching staff in the Indian team including bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar to join the Ahmedabad based IPL franchise.

According to the report, members of the CVC Capitals have reached out to Ravi Shastri in Dubai and have made an approach to join Ahmedabad based franchise, however, Shastri has told them that he is currently focused in the T20 World Cup only and will continue talk after his stint as India head coach is over.

A source has also revealed to Cricbuzz that Ravi Shastri is very much inclined towards continue coaching, especially coaching an IPL team, even if it means that he won’t be able to make a return in the commentary box, due to fact of Conflict of Interest.

However, Ravi Shastri can join a broadcasting channel as a commentator (like current Sunrisers Hyderabad mentor VVS Laxman does) and is believed to have offers from major channels such as Star Sports and Sony Sports.

IPL 2022 Teams Auction

While it looks like the preparation has already started for the Ahmedabad franchise, the other new franchise from Lucknow is yet to enter into the business. The BCCI held a auction on October to sell the two new franchises that will enter the IPL from 2022.

CVC Capitals won the bid for the Ahmedabad based franchise for 5625 crore INR, whereas, RP Sanjiv Goenka Group splashed out 7090 crore INR to buy the Lucknow based IPL franchise.
