The first test between India and West Indies is underway in Dominica. The hosts won the toss and decided to bat first. However, that decision didn’t go well with them, as the visitors exploited the conditions pretty well and dismissed the West Indies for just 150 runs on Day 1.

The Indian bowling performance was led by veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who bagged yet another five-wicket haul on his comeback. He provided India with the first breakthrough and dismissed both openers. He ended up with a bowling figure of 5/60 in 24.3 overs.

It was Ashwin’s 33rd Test fifer which is the most among the active bowlers in the longest format. He went past James Anderson’s tally of 32 five-wicket hauls. Ashwin is only behind Muttiah Muralidharan (67), Shane Warne (37), Richard Hadlee (36), Anil Kimble (35) and Rangana Herath (34).

With this performance, he also achieved a few massive records and registered his name in the record books. Ashwin picked up his fifth fifer against the West Indies. He equaled Harbhajan Singh with five five-wicket hauls against the Caribbean team. Malcolm Marshall sits at the top with six fifers in the India-West Indies Tests.

He has 479 Tests, 151 ODIs, and 72 T20I wickets in his career so far. Ashwin is 16th overall in terms of the most international wickets in history.

For India, Kumble is at the top with 956 wickets across formats. Ashwin enjoys playing against the West Indies. He has played 12 tests so far and picked up 65 wickets at 21.97, with a best of 7/83. He has also scored 552 runs with four centuries at an average of 50.18. After dismissing Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Ashwin also became only the fifth bowler and first Indian to dismiss father and son duo in Test Cricket. He dismissed Shivnarine Chanderpaul in his debut game in 2011. After wrapping up the inning, Team India ended the first day at 80/0 with Yashasvi Jaiswal (40) and Rohit Sharma (30) unbeaten on the crease.
