Ravichandran Ashwin responded to a fan’s comment who tried to remind him of the two sixes hit by Shahid Afridi off his bowling in the last over of the India vs Pakistan match in Asia Cup 2014. Pakistan needed 13 runs to win off the last over. Captain Virat Kohli handed the ball to R Ashwin, who was one of the top spinners of the team.

Ashwin started the over by dismissing Saeed Ajmal on the first ball. Pakistan only had one wicket left. Junaid Khan came out to bat next. Instead of trying to build pressure on him, Ashwin bowled a ball, where Khan could take a single.

Khan pushed the ball towards the mid-wicket region, which allowed him to take a single. Shahid Afridi came on strike. He smashed the next two balls out of the park to win the match for Pakistan. It was one of the most memorable matches in Asia Cup history.

Ashwin was in Guwahati today for the 2023 World Cup warm-up match against England. The match was abandoned due to rain. The off-spinner decided to spend some time on X after the match was called off. One of the fans tried to remind him about the two sixes hit by Afridi. Here’s what Ashwin replied:

“Those were really good shots man. Really admired him as a great ball striker.”

R Ashwin will return to the field on Tuesday in Thiruvananthapuram

Ashwin will be in action on October 3 now, when the Indian team takes on the Netherlands in the second warm-up match of the ICC World Cup 2023 warm-up round. The off-spinner made a return to ODI cricket after 20 months in the recently-concluded series against Australia. He bowled well in the two matches he played.

The off-spinner is likely to feature in India’s first-choice playing XI for the match against Australia on October 8. He would like to boost his confidence by performing well in the match against the Netherlands.
