Ambati Rayudu took a magnificent catch for the Chennai Super Kings last night in their IPL 2022 match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Standing in the cover region, he executed a fine dive to dismiss RCB’s bowler Akash Deep off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling.
Many fans opined that the catch which Rayudu took last night was the best of IPL 2022 so far. Rayudu’s former Mumbai Indians teammate Sachin Tendulkar even said that the catch from Rayudu yesterday night reminded him of Ricky Ponting who took a similar catch while playing for the Mumbai Indians in the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League against the Delhi Capitals.
It was the first ball of the Delhi innings, with U-19 star Unmukt Chand on strike. Ricky Ponting, who was the captain of the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2013, gave the ball to Harbhajan Singh to bowl the first over. Chand could not connect with the shot well.
The ball went towards Ponting in the cover region after a leading edge from Chand’s bat. Ponting, who was not so young then, executed an incredible one-handed catch to send Chand back to the dressing room on the first ball.

Speaking on his YouTube channel after the IPL 2022 match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings, Tendulkar said:
“Rayudu’s catch off Jadeja’s bowling reminded me of Ponting. It was just magnificent. Bengaluru would still be thinking that if they hadn’t lost too many wickets up top, they would have probably chased the total down. Jadeja bowled well in partnership with Theekshana. He used his experience against dangerman Maxwell.”
The Chennai Super Kings won their first match in IPL 2022 last night. They will be keen to continue their winning momentum.
