Sophie Ecclestone has reacted to the tight scheduling for the Supernovas in the ongoing Women’s T20 Challenge 2022. Many fans would know that the BCCI organizes a tri-series for women’s cricketers during the IPL Playoffs week, which is known as the Women’s T20 Challenge. Three teams, namely Trailblazers, Velocity and Supernovas participate in the competition.

This year, the matches are happening at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. Considering the schedule of the IPL Playoffs, the BCCI stage the first match of the Women’s T20 Challenge on Monday evening, with the second match happening on Tuesday afternoon. Since there are only three teams in the tournament, one team needs to play two matches in quick succession.

Harmanpreet Kaur-led Supernovas had that tight schedule in the Women’s T20 Challenge 2022. They won the first match against Trailblazers on Monday night but lost to Velocity on Tuesday afternoon. In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, Supernovas team member Sophie Ecclestone shared her views on the scheduling and said:

“I think it did make an impact. We started the game at 7:30 pm on Monday and returned to the hotel at 2 am. We were then back on the ground at 1 pm on Tuesday. Everyone was very tired, but we don’t want to give any excuses.”

I’ve not really followed the IPL: Sophie Ecclestone gives interesting reason for not watching IPL

During the same interview, Sophie Ecclestone, who is one of the top bowlers in women’s cricket, said that she could not watch IPL matches before because the timings were same as her school timings. When asked how long had she been following the Indian Premier League, Sophie frankly replied:

“I’ve not really followed the IPL as the match timings clashed with my school hours.”

Supernovas will now rely on the result of the match between Velocity and Trailblazers to know whether they will play in the final match or not.
