The final match of the ICC World Test Championship series between the Indian cricket team and the England cricket team got underway earlier today at Edgbaston. Rishabh Pant has once again emerged as the main man for the Indian team as he scored an impressive half-century in the first innings.

England cricket team skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first in Birmingham. The home team dismissed Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer before allowing the visitors to touch the 100-run mark. Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja have stitched up a fantastic partnership for the sixth wicket.

Talking about what happened at the toss first, new captain of the Indian cricket team Jasprit Bumrah did not call it right. Here’s what he said after losing the toss:

“It’s happened before – Kapil Dev has captained before. it’s a good feeling, it’s a massive achievement for me. It’s the biggest privilege in our sport, to captain your country in Test cricket. Very excited and looking forward to it. Very happy with the preparation – we had a practice game in Leicester and we spent a lot of time getting used to the English weather.”

Captain has changed, but Rishabh Pant has maintained his aggressive game

The change of captaincy and the pressure of vice-captaincy has not impacted Rishabh Pant at all. The wicket-keeper batter has scored 53 runs off 52 deliveries after 44 overs in the Indian innings. Pant has smashed six fours and a six in this innings thus far.

The six that he smashed in Birmingham was the 100th of his international career. At the age of 24, Pant now has 100 international sixes to his name. Sachin Tendulkar achieved this feat at the age of 25, so Pant has broken his record for being the youngest Indian to hit 100 sixes.
