Rohit Sharma breaks MS Dhoni’s all-time international record

After registering a thumping win in the first test, Rohit Sharma and his men are taking on the West Indies in the second and final game at Queen’s Park Oval. The game started with the hosts winning the toss and electing to bowl first.

India got off to yet another strong start, finishing the first session on Day 1 at 121/0. Both openers also scored their respective half-centuries. But the hosts pulled it back in the second session, where they dismissed four Indian batters in the space of 43 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the first Indian batter to get out as he scored 57 runs, including one six and nine fours. Shubham Gill also got out cheaply for 10 runs. Rohit Sharma was looking good for yet another century. But he lost his wicket to a peach of a delivery from Jomel Warrican.

Before getting out, Rohit made 80 runs off 143 balls, with nine boundaries and two sixes. With his 80-run knock, the Indian captain went past MS Dhoni and became the fifth-highest run scorer for India in international cricket. Overall, Rohit has played 443 international games and scored 17298 runs at an average of 42.92.

There are 44 centuries to his name, along with 93 half-centuries, including a best of 264. Rohit is only behind Sachin Tendulkar (34357 runs in 664 games), Virat Kohli (25484 runs in 500 games), Rahul Dravid (24064 runs in 504 games), and Sourav Ganguly (18434 runs in 432 games).

Rohit surpassed MS Dhoni, who had 17092 runs in 535 games at 44.74, including 15 centuries and 108 half-centuries. On the other hand, the Indian captain also completed 2000 runs in test cricket as an opener. As an opener, he has played 27 tests and scored 2035 runs at a batting average of 53.55, with seven hundreds and five half-centuries.
