After losing the toss, India batted first. Both openers carried on where they left off in the first test in Dominica. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma added 139 runs for the first wicket. Jaiswal made his maiden half-century and got out to Jason Holder. He scored 57 off 74 balls, with nine boundaries and one six.

The left-hander was looking good for a big score but got carried away and played a rash shot. However, with his half-century, he joined an elite list of Test openers in history. Jaiswal has scored a total of 228 runs in his first two innings.

For the Indians, Jaiswal is third on the list after Rohit and Sourav Ganguly (267) for most runs in the first two innings. The Indian captain also scored 80 runs on the first day. India lost four quick wickets in the second session and were under pressure.

But Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja added an unbeaten stand of 106 runs to take India out of the hole. Kohli is unbeaten on 87 runs with 8 boundaries, while Jadeja is 36 not out, including four boundaries.
