Virat Kohli was one of the best captains that India produced in the game. Under him, India achieved a lot of success and was at the No. 1 ranking in test cricket for six consecutive years. However, Virat couldn’t lead India to an ICC title, despite India playing some knockout games under his captaincy.

Hence, there was a time when the Indian board sacked him from the captaincy. Then BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was active at that time when India appointed Rohit Sharma as the all-format captain for Team India. That ignited a huge controversy, and there were some rumours of a rift between Virat and Sourav as well.

However, both of them have said many times that there was nothing between the two. But now the former BCCI president has finally opened up and talked about the decision to make Rohit India’s new captain.

In a discussion with RevSportz, Ganguly praised Rohit’s captaincy and lauded him for the way he led India in the ODI World Cup 2023. India were undefeated until the final and ended as runner-up. Sourav said, “Rohit became the captain when I was BCCI president. I made him the captain because I saw the talent in him, and I am not surprised by what he has done. So, he is a good captain. IPL trophies.”

Rohit has been one of the successful captains for India. Under him, India played the WTC final and won the BGT series against India. He also led India to become the first team to beat England under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum.

However, there is one big ICC tournament coming up in June. It will be the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be played in the West Indies and the USA. As usual, the hopes for India are very high. The Men in Blue have not won an ICC tournament since 2013. So everyone is desperate to end this trophy drought.
