Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma holds the prestigious record of winning the most IPL trophies. However, in IPL 2022, MI have earned an unwanted record for the most consecutive defeats at the start of a new season by any franchise. Yesterday night, MI lost their eighth consecutive match of the season as Lucknow Super Giants crushed them at Wankhede Stadium.

Courtesy of their defeat last night, it seems improbable that the Mumbai Indians would finish in the Top 4 of the points table. Even if MI win all of their remaining six matches, which seems tough looking at how they have performed so far in IPL 2022, they will have to then expect that most of the other results go their way, and they have the best net run rate among teams with 12 points to finish in the Top 4.

Since MI are practically almost of IPL 2022, Rohit Sharma took to Twitter to send a message to the loyal fans of the Mumbai-based franchise. Here’s what the MI skipper wrote:

“We haven’t put our best foot forward in this tournament but that happens, many sporting giants have gone through this phase but I love this team and it’s environment. Also want to appreciate our well wishers who’ve shown faith and undying loyalty to this team so far.”

Rohit Sharma will be in action this Saturday against Rajasthan Royals

Mumbai Indians will play their ninth match of the season against the Rajasthan Royals on April 30. It will be interesting to see if the Mumbai-based franchise could finally snap their losing streak in IPL 2022.

When MI and RR met earlier this season, the Royals recorded a win. MI would hope to avenge that loss on Saturday evening.
