The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is currently underway. Yesterday, the fans witnessed a match between the inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals and new entrants Gujarat Titans. Both teams gave their 100%, and ultimately, it was Gujarat that emerged victorious. During the match, Sunil Gavaskar and Darren Ganga had an interesting discussion.

While on commentary, a question came up that if a player is the highest run-scorer and the highest wicket-taker at the same time in an IPL season, which cap he should wear. The player with the most runs owns the Orange Cap, while the player with the most wickets wears the Purple Cap.

In the 14 years of IPL, there has not been any occasion when the same player held both caps. The probable candidates for that position seem Andre Russell and Hardik Pandya right now. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said on commentary the player should wear orange while batting and purple while bowling.

Daren Ganga chimed in and added that there should be a special cap with half Orange and half Purple which should be given to the player who accomplishes the unique feat.

Sunil Gavaskar and Daren Ganga gave interesting suggestions to the organizers

Looking at the current IPL 2022 leaderboards, it seems improbable that fans will see the same player will hold the Orange Cap and the Purple Cap at the same time. Even if someone does, they can follow the suggestion given by Gavaskar and Ganga.

Recently, Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal swapped their caps for a social media post. The Rajasthan Royals stars own the Orange Cap and the Purple Cap respectively in IPL 2022. It will be interesting to see if they can hold on to those caps or someone else overtakes them. Yesterday, Hardik Pandya owned the Orange Cap for a while before Buttler took it back.
