In what is a surprising decision to the whole world, Virat Kohli yesterday shocked everyone by announcing that he is stepping down as India’s Test captain with immediate effect.

The generation’s one of the greatest batsman, Virat Kohli is one of the greatest ever captain in world of cricket. However, with his announcement yesterday, the legacy came to an end.

The Indian team suffered a Test series defeat against the hosts South Africa after being at front in the series after having won the first Test in Centurion, but went on to lose the other two.

How with Kohli out of the Test captaincy role as well, the question is, who will be India’s next Test skipper. Former Indian cricketer and legend Sunil Gavaskar has his choice for the role.

Sunil Gavaskar picks next India Test Captain after Virat Kohli steps down

While speaking to India Today, Sunil Gavaskar stated that wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant should be the India’s Test skipper.

He reasoned giving an example of Rohit Sharma, stating that after getting captaincy role, Rohit Sharma’s game changed completely, and instead of playing big cameos, he started scoring the 100 and 200s. And believes that if Rishabh Pant is given the role, he will score many of the beautiful hundreds.

Virat Kohli shocked not just the Indian fans, but the whole world of cricket when he took to his official social media handles to announce that he is stepping down as India’s Test skipper.

This comes after he had announced his decision to step down as Royal Challengers Bangalore and India Team’s T20 skipper earlier. That was followed by the sacking of him as India’s ODI captain and was replaced by Rohit Sharma, however, remained as the Test captain.

There were already a lot of pressure on the Delhi born batsman, having failed to score much runs and that most awaited hundred. However, he signalled return to form during the South Africa series.

The BCCI is yet to take a call on who will be the Test captain, but Rohit Sharma is believed to at the front as he is only leader option available to the Indian team after Virat Kohli, while KL Rahul is not mature enough.

India’s next Test series is against the visiting team Sri Lanka from the 25th of February. The series will consists of 2 Tests and 3 ODI matches.
