Team-wise one player who might not be retained before IPL 2021 Auction

IPL 2021 is just on the horizon as the rumors are rife that the BCCI is planning to introduce a new team and also have a mega-auction next year. In case a mega auction occurs, the existing teams will only be able to retain three players. Thus, there will be a lot of releases made by each franchise.

If the mega auction is postponed to 2022, the teams will release only a few players and retain their core group. The teams would be prepared for either situation, and here’s a look at the one player from each team who might not be retained irrespective of the mega auction occurs or not.

Kedar Jadhav – Chennai Super Kings

The Chennai Super Kings surprisingly retained Kedar Jadhav before the IPL 2020 Auction. Very few fans expected that decision. Still, CSK back the all-rounder.

Unfortunately, he could not repay the franchise’s faith. Jadhav struggled to get going in IPL 2020, aggregating 62 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 93.93. The chances that he gets another contract from CSK are quite low.

Daniel Sams – Delhi Capitals

Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams became a part of the Delhi Capitals team in IPL 2020 as a replacement player. He did not get a single bid in the IPL Auction.

But DC might have been optimistic but Anrich Nortje proved to be a wonderful replacement signing. Sams got a chance to play three games for the Capitals. He could neither score a run nor pick up a wicket, meaning that he might return to the auction next year.

Glenn Maxwell – Kings XI Punjab

Another Australian all-rounder to feature on this list is Glenn Maxwell. Virender Sehwag labeled him as a ’10 Crore Cheerleader’ after his IPL 2020 performance.

Maxwell could not hit a single maximum this year in the United Arab Emirates. He played 13 matches for KXIP, scoring 108 runs and taking three wickets.

Kuldeep Yadav – Kolkata Knight Riders

The Kolkata Knight Riders team management will be very happy with the way Varun Chakravarthy performed for them in IPL 2020. The mystery spinner took 17 wickets in 13 matches.

However, his experienced teammate Kuldeep Yadav did not have a memorable season. After a forgettable IPL 2019, Kuldeep could take only one wicket in five matches this year. He will most probably come back to the auction room.

Nathan Coulter Nile – Mumbai Indians

Almost all players of the Mumbai Indians team did a fantastic job in IPL 2020. James Pattinson stepped up and delivered the goods in Lasith Malinga’s absence.

The Mumbai Indians might look to retain both Pattinson and Malinga for the next season. This could result in Nathan Coulter Nile’s ouster. The Aussie pacer scalped only five wickets in seven matches. Also, MI signed him for a whopping 8 Crore. Thus, he might not be retained.

Jaydev Unadkat – Rajasthan Royals

The Rajasthan Royals gave Jaydev Unadkat many opportunities to prove himself as a match-winner for them. However, the left-arm pacer has repeatedly produced below-par performances.

In IPL 2020, Unadkat was going to lead the team in the absence of Steve Smith. But he could not do so, and on top of that, he scalped only four wickets in seven matches at an economy rate of 9.91. It is unlikely that RR would trust him again.

Dale Steyn – Royal Challengers Bangalore

South African fast bowler Dale Steyn had a disappointing IPL season in the UAE. The right-arm fast bowler played three matches for the Bangalore-based franchise.

However, he could dismiss only batsman in those three games. His economy rate of 11.40 has all but guaranteed his exit from the Royal Challengers team before 2021.

Mitchell Marsh – Sunrisers Hyderabad

Mitchell Marsh played only one game for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2020. He picked up an injury in that game and could not perform well.

Subsequently, he was ruled out of the competition. Jason Holder took his place and emerged as a match-winner for the Orange Army. Since there is a limit on the overseas players a team can retain, Marsh might lose his place to Holder.
