“That is literally all he said”- Jonny Bairstow reveals the short message coach Brendon McCullum sent to him before Tests against New Zealand

Jonny Bairstow has been the hero for the England cricket team in their ongoing ICC World Test Championship series against the New Zealand cricket team. The English team has already taken a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. They will be keen to complete a clean-sweep by winning the ongoing third Test match at Headingley in Leeds.

In the previous Test match of this series, Jonny Bairstow slammed a quickfire ton in the second innings to help the England cricket team win the match. Bairstow set a record for the second-fastest century by an English batter in Test cricket history.

At Headingley, England were down to 55/6 in the first innings when Jonny Bairstow joined hands with debutant Jamie Overton in the middle. The two batters ensured that the England cricket team did not lose any wickets until the end of Day 2. Heading into Day 3, England are 264/6 after 49 overs.

Jonny Bairstow scored another hundred against the New Zealand cricket team

Jonny Bairstow completed his hundred at Headingley off just 95 deliveries. He is currently not out on 130 runs off 126 deliveries, smashing 21 fours. Explaining how he dealt with critics who wanted him out of the team, Bairstow told Sky Sports after the end of the day’s play in Leeds:

“There is sometimes a lot of rubbish that is spoken about a lot of different things and sometimes it gets into your mind and clutters it and then sometimes you have to just flick it.”

Revealing what coach Brendon McCullum told him ahead of the ICC World Test Championship series against the New Zealand cricket team, Bairstow added:

The way Brendon has been, he just said you have to impose yourself on the game, that is literally all he said. It is an exciting way.”
