IPL 2022 concluded last week in Ahmedabad, where home team Gujarat Titans defeated inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals to win their maiden trophy. GT completed a hat-trick of wins against RR this season last Sunday. The Ahmedabad-based franchise defeated their rivals once in the league stage and twice in the playoffs. Riyan Parag could not impress much in the matches against Gujarat.

Parag could have made some impact in the Qualifier 1 match against the Gujarat Titans, but he got run out before the last ball of the innings. He scored four runs off three balls in the innings. Yash Dayal bowled the last over of the Rajasthan Royals innings at the Eden Gardens.

Dayal bowled a no-ball on the final ball, and Jos Buttler got run out off that delivery. New batter Ravichandran Ashwin faced the next ball. Dayal bowled a wide, and non-striker Riyan Parag attempted to steal a bye. However, Ashwin had no interest. As a result, Parag got run out. He was visibly not happy with his senior’s decision and returned to the dressing room.

Some fans slammed him for his attitude, but Parag clarified in a Q & A session for Rooter Sports that it was not his attitude.

Riyan Parag talks about that controversial run-out with Ravichandran Ashwin

Parag opened up on that run-out and said that Ravichandran Ashwin knew it was his mistake. According to Parag, Ashwin went to the dressing room and apologized to him. Here’s what he was quoted as saying by The Lallan Top:

“Ashwin bhai was batting. In that situation someone else would have been a tailender together then it would have been fine (not taking a run). But if I am batting then they should run. He didn’t run for the run and I was surprised. That was not my attitude. Later he himself came and said sorry to me.”
