Former Indian cricket team batter Sanjay Manjrekar has opined that the team management should consider picking Kuldeep Yadav for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. The Indian cricket team is one of the 16 teams that will participate in the mega event. India have not won the T20 World Cup since the inaugural edition which happened back in 2007.
Speaking with Sports 18, Sanjay Manjrekar shared his views on the Indian spin department for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Last year, when the Indian cricket team participated in the T20 World Cup in the UAE, the selectors left out both Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. They picked Varun CV, R Ashwin and Rahul Chahar as the three spinners.
However, this year, it seems that the choices should change because of the way the aforementioned names performed in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. Giving his opinion on why Kuldeep Yadav should play, Sanjay Manjrekar said:
“He (Chahal) will be tested on those pitches in Australia, the pitches won’t be the kind that Chahal relishes and that’s why I believe Kuldeep Yadav has got to be a part of the squad. There will be bounce for his kind of a bowler. If the pitch turns in Australia, then Chahal becomes your bowler.”
Why is Kuldeep Yadav not playing for India in the T20I series against the South African cricket team?
The Indian cricket team is currently playing a five-match T20I series against the South African cricket team. The selectors named Kuldeep Yadav in the squad, but he was ruled out of the series because of a last-minute injury.
Tomorrow evening in Rajkot, fans will witness the fourth T20I of the series, with the South African cricket team having a 2-1 lead. It will be interesting to see if the Men in Blue can keep the series alive by registering another win.
