Rohit Sharma is the captain of the Indian cricket team in all three formats of the game now. Sharma opens the innings in all three formats as well, and some fans think that the easiest way to dismiss him is by giving the new ball to a left-arm fast bowler.

Some fans even remember how the likes of Trent Boult and Shaheen Shah Afridi troubled Rohit at the start of the innings in crucial World Cup matches of 2019 and 2021. However, for those fans, a statistic has come up which proves that left-arm pace is not Rohit’s weak point at all.

A Twitter user recently listed the statistics of batters against left-arm pace bowlers in the shortest format of the game. In T20I cricket, Sharma has smashed the most number of sixes by any batter against left-arm pace bowlers. He has hit 22 sixes against left-arm pacers, while no other batter has hit even 20. The next best is by Evin Lewis (17 sixes), but fans should note that he is a left-handed batter.

Rohit Sharma is ahead of Shreyas Iyer and MS Dhoni in a major list

Another record that the Twitter user shared was about the strike rate of Indian batters in T20Is while playing against left-arm fast bowlers. The sample size was minimum 100 runs. Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav were the only names ahead of Rohit Sharma on this list.

This statistic proves that even though some left-arm pacers have taken the wicket of Rohit in important, it is not like he cannot play left-arm pace well. Sharma will be keen to silence his doubters when he meets Shaheen Afridi on August 28.
