Test cricket is the purest format of cricket, and it is the aim of every batter to score big for their nation in the longest format of the game. Unlike ODIs and T20Is, a batter can score a triple hundred or even touch the 400-run mark in a Test match. The reason behind that is there is no upper limit on the number of overs a team can play in a Test innings.
Over the years, several batters have scored 300 in a Test match. However, fans should note that it is one thing to score a triple hundred and it is another to score in a quick time. If a batter takes 700 balls to score 300 runs, the impact may not be the same. Here’s a list of the top five fastest triple hundreds in Test cricket history.
5. David Warner – 389 balls
Australian cricket team batter David Warner scored a triple hundred against Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval in 2019. He took 389 balls to complete 300 runs.
4. Karun Nair – 381 balls
Karun Nair is one of the two Indians to feature on this list. The right-handed batter recorded a triple century against the England cricket team at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in 2016. He took 381 balls to complete the triple hundred.
3. Virender Sehwag – 364 balls
Virender Sehwag is the other Indian on this list. Sehwag smashed multiple triple hundreds in his career, and one of them came off 364 balls against Pakistan in 2004.
2. Matthew Hayden – 362 balls
Former Australian cricket team opener Matthew Hayden owns the record for the quickest triple hundred by a non-Indian batter in Test matches. Playing in a match against Zimbabwe, Hayden took 362 balls for the triple hundred.
